BOATS N’ KIDS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

As part of our charter, we endeavor to educate boating enthusiasts, young and old, on the history of boating in New Jersey. As part of this effort, we offer varied programs and periodic clinics throughout the year at the Museum site For information on any of these programs, kindly contact us directly at 732 701 2581.

SCHOOL TOURS

We have developed varied curriculums for class tours and ‘hands on’ learning clinics for elementary and high school children. In addition, with assistance from the Coast Guard Auxiliary, we hold ‘Boating Safety for Kids’ learning sessions at the Museum each spring in time for the boating season.

School Tours

KIDS N’ BOATS INTERN PROGRAMS

  • Library Assistants. Work in our Nautical Library, updating our book inventory.
  • Book marking and categorizing, computer related projects, and general assistance in organization.
  • Maritime Research. Assist in first-level research on varied topics related to upcoming and existing displays and exhibits.
  • Eco Patrol Boat volunteers. Our trash retrieval boat does its share of help
  • ‘Keep Barnaget Bay Clean’. It requires two (2) individuals (minimum age 16) to patrol the bay picking up debris and navigational hazards.
  • (Boating license required)
  • Boat Scraping, Sanding and Painting. Hands on help with the annual re-finishing of our outdoor wooden boat displays.

FAMILY BOATING PROGRAM

Children, ages 12 and up, will assist in the building of a 9-foot Barnegat Bay rowboat, which he or she will actually own upon completion.

Boy-Scouts

SCOUT LEARNING CLINICS

Boy Scouts and Cub Scout groups are invited to partake in museum projects and tours which can contribute to their respective creditive badges. These programs are tailored to each troup’s specific requirements and areas of particular interest .

MODEL BOAT BUILDING

Children in grades two through nine can enjoy the experience of model boat building at the New Jersey Museum of Boating. They will have a blast creating model boats of the Barnegat Bay, including life saving boats, fishing boats, crabbing boats and more. This educational model boat building class is available upon request, so call for more information.

KIDS BOATING SAFETY CLASSES

Sponsored by the Coast Guard Auxiliary, these classes are intended to educate young mariners on the basics of boating safety.

KIDS SAILING PROGRAM

Young sailors will learn the ropes, becoming familiar with basic sailing techniques.

A September day of fun and entertainment at the largest wooden boat show on the Jersey Shore.

ANNUAL CLASSIC BOAT SOCIETY SHOW (acbs)

A September day of fun and entertainment at the largest antique boat show on the Jersey Shore. A variety of classic wooden boats are on display by owners within the tri-state area. Judging in several categories takes place followed by award presentations.

There are model boat demonstrations for the kids, a variety of vendors for everyone to enjoy, and food and refreshments for all are available.
